Nurses Improve Efficiency and Safety by Documenting Care on the Go

In the first six months after Wellstar Health System gave nurses and other hospital staff smartphones, clinical documentation completed in real time is up 80% and nurses scanned 24,000 more patient ID and medication barcodes.

Wellstar Health System in Marietta, Georgia, gave nurses smartphones equipped with Rover, one of Epic’s healthcare applications for mobile devices, so that they can review patient data and complete documentation on the go. Nurses reported that being able to access patient information and document on their phones helped them work more efficiently. This was reflected by an 80% increase in documentation completed in real time and 24,000 more patient ID and medication barcodes scanned in the first six months, improving safety and accuracy.
